Pneumonia 23 is a pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine or (PPSV23). It is recommended for children as early as 2 years of age or older. Re-vaccinated every 5 years.
It is NOT very effective in infants under two (2) years old as their immune systems are too immature to generate strong & protective response to this kind of vaccine. Older children and adults do respond to Pneumonia 23. The advantage of Pneumonia 23 is that t protects against 23 types of pneumococcal bacteria.
Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommends pneumococcal 23 vaccination for: 1) People 2 through 64 years old with certain medical conditions 2) Adults 65 years or older 3) Adults 19 years old through 64 years old who smokes cigarettes
Age: Can be given as early as 2 years old up to 64 years of age.
Dose: 1 dose every 5 year
